Divisional Weekend: The Best Weekend of the Year
Pick up the pizza. Pick up the drinks. We've got fun, exciting games all weekend long.
NFL Quick Hitters:
Coaches - Cowboys??! A little late to be firing your coach. The team is a mess. Cap situation is difficult and Parsons will need to be paid this year. They have some talent but little depth. QB that gets hurt time and time again. And a meddlesome owner that will not change. It was once a glamour team. Not so sure if that’s the case anymore. Not sure it is a great job. But there are only so many head coaching positions available in the NFL. My bet? Kellen Moore gets the job.
Worse job opening? - Not even close. It’s the Saints. They have an old roster. They have perhaps the worse cap situation in the history of the league. They do have a serviceable QB but not one that can lift the team beyond the talent level. So, lack of talent, team is old, and a limited ability to turn anything around because of the cap space. Good luck. Next coach better sign a long term deal.
Ravens vs. Bills - This will be a devastating loss for either team. Worse for the Ravens. They’ve gone all in. They’ve looked like the best team in the league for much of the year. They’ve crushed good teams. They hit hard. They run the ball. And the defense has improved every week. And they have Jackson who may be the greatest play maker in the league. If they lose, it’s because they beat themselves with turnovers. The Bills were suppose to be in a down year. Many didn’t pick them to make the playoffs. Josh Allen is unbelievable so they have a chance but they will have to play a perfect game. This could get out of hand. I just hope for a close competitive game that’s won by good play and not lost by bad.
NFL Games: Divisional Weekend
Last week’s totals: 3- 3: Bad week. I got fooled by the Texans. They played below expectations for most of the season. They battled injuries throughout the year. They’ve underperformed. Suddenly, in the playoffs, they played great. The defense was dominate. Stroud played like Stroud of last year. And they crushed the Chargers. Good for them. Season’s totals: 184 - 74
Survivor pick/Lock of the week: (current streak 2) Chiefs - Chiefs. Rested. Focused. Ready to roll. But watch out for that Texans pass rush.
(Oh, and if you use these picks - or the fantasy lineup at the bottom - to gamble do so at your own risks. I’m a ‘gut feel’ type of picker. I don’t do a computer analysis.)
Divisional Weekend
Saturday Games:
Texans vs. Chiefs - This game got a little more interesting after the great performance from the Texans last week. They dominated the Chargers offensive line. It was ugly. It forced multiple turnovers and turnovers are killers. Can they do it to the Chiefs? They’ll rack up some sacks, maybe, but the Chiefs are rested and ready. I expect a great performance from the Chiefs and a dominate win. Chiefs win.
Commanders vs. Lions - I’d love to pick the Commanders. They are the feel-good team of the year. They have a great young QB that continues to play like he’s a vet. He’s definitely a winer. But Lions roll. Commanders will score but they won’t be able to stop the Lions and the home crowd. Only chance is for Goth to throw a bunch of picks. And I don’t expect that. Lions win.
Sunday Games:
Rams vs. Eagles - Again, I’d love to pick the underdog Rams. They’re one of my favorite teams. But the Eagles are talented. And at home. Run the ball. Keep the ball in your hands. Don’t give the Rams a chance. Win the game. Eagles win.
Ravens vs. Bills - This is the game of the weekend. Chiefs fans are hoping the two teams beat each other up and play double overtime game. When in doubt pick the team that hits harder. Pick the team that plays better defense. Pick the team that runs the ball. Ravens are superior in all three. Yes, Josh could go crazy but I’m not sure this will be that close. Ravens win.
My FanDuel lineup: Divisional Weekend: Last week: +$35 (thank you Derek Henry and Texans D) Saturday Games: Mahomes, Gibbs, Pacheco, Worthy, St. Brown, Brown, LaPorta, Williams, Chiefs. Sunday Games: Hurts, Barkley, Henry, Hollins, Shakir, Atwell, Goedert, Kupp, Eagles.
Season score: +$95
