to surprise yourself by doing something unexpected or something that you thought was beyond your ability or experience

Mission

I want everyone to think. Yeah, I know, a stupid statement. We all think. We all breathe. We all eat, sleep, and binge Netflix usually without the chill part.

But I’m reaching for that Dead Poet’s Society moment when you stand on the desk and view the world from a different angle.

And if you see the world differently, you will think differently.

It’s a “Eureka” moment.

It’s a quiet, thoughtful moment.

And that’s what we need. More thoughtful moments.

Followed by thoughtful action.

Why Me?

When my son was in the first grade, my wife and I spent a lot of time in the Principal’s office. Three, four times a week. And every conversation with his teacher started with

“I’ve been a teacher for 30 years and I never…”

That’s not me.

That’s not 30 years of experience. That’s 1 year of experience and 29 years of servitude.

This is me:

  • I’ve built 8 companies.

  • In 6 industries.

  • With 4 exits.

  • 2 great exits (in the multi-millions).

  • 2 good exits (in that I exited with some money and sanity mostly intact).

  • And one colossal screw up (again, in the multi-millions, sanity extremely shaky).

  • I’m building my 9th company now.

  • I’m aged - but still learning (Use to be the young guy at the table, talk, talk, talking, but now, just the gray head guy listening).

  • I’m experienced - but understand that I still don’t know shit.

  • I can order beer and say thank you in 10 languages (the thank you’s are important when you’re in a bar in a far off country with lots of guys with machetes strapped to their legs).

  • Husband, father. Reader, writer, world-traveler (40+ countries and counting).

Expect this:

  • Articles on self education

  • Articles on creating a second brain

  • Philosophy

  • And of course, all things small business

  • Occasional Ideas you can turn into a business

  • Some no B.S. reading lists

  • Some challenging, crazy, paradigm shifting thoughts

  • Quick hitters and longer, thoroughly, researched pieces ( Interested in something? Ask, I’ll do the research and write it up. If it excites me. And I’m easily excited.)

  • I’ll throw in some Brazilian JiuJitsu lessons - the principals and how they apply to everyday life but not 10 ways to choke someone out (love, love, love it even though I mostly get my ass kicked).

And The Coolest Part

You’ll get a quick brain-slap most Thursdays. A jolt for the weekend. For free.

Always free.

If you want more stuff, more in depth writing, and if you want to join in the conversation and help send me down a rabbit hole or two try the paid version.

Either way I thank you.

But wait. Why subscribe?

Subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and website. And I’m going to drop a lot of articles. Sometimes one extra a week but other times four a week. Depends what I’m thinking about and what feedback you’ve given me.

So jump in.

Waters fine.

Never miss an update.
